About Me

Welcome!

It's hard to believe, but I just hit my 10 year teaching milestone!  I've been lucky enough to work with so many types of learners that have helped me become the teacher I am.

Who is that teacher you ask?  Well, I think my class would say that I'm creative, determined, patient, hardworking, funny, and addicted to coffee.

I've learned not to take myself too seriously in this business, because, after all, you're with a room full of silly little people.  No matter your best laid plans, someone will always make a hilarious comment, noise, or have some sort of meltdown, usually when you're being observed.

Although I find the humor, I also want to find the best ways to encourage the wide range of learning styles that come to my classroom each September.  And by wide, I mean vast, sweeping, boundless. You get the picture.  I was lucky enough to work with the Kennedy Center's Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) Program.  This program works with schools and teachers to help them define arts integration and teach strategies that level the playing field for all students.

My teaching style is greatly influenced by their work.  The power of arts integration is truly remarkable.  Through arts integrated lessons, I found ways to let my ESOL students, my gifted students, my students with learning disabilities, and the myriad more, showcase what they know.  Soon, everyone had a voice.  Students were challenged to work cooperatively and find the strengths in their classmates.  Plus, we really had a lot of fun while learning. Who knew?

I hope you enjoy my work and my stories that I have posted here, and that you can find a little something to make your life as an educator easier.  Because when it comes down to it, don't we all just want a little more time to make another cup of coffee?
